Study Time with JoAnn
Well, it’s the run down to the finish line for my Interior Design and Decorating course with Mercer.
How have my personal tastes developed over the duration of the course ?
I have adopted the use of vibrant colour and natural light in my course designs.
I love to take the indoors outdoors, fostering a relaxed lifestyle concept which is so distinctively Australian. While not committing to one style, I take inspiration from a range of modern design influences. Anna Spiro is one designer who inspires me with her use of gorgeous colours, prints and layered textures.
“I am drawn to light-filled rooms on neutral backdrops, adorned with vibrant splashes of colour and print in textiles, soft furnishings and upholstery,”
Other partialities include the bold lines of Art Deco, natural forms of Art Nouveau, the sleek glamour of Hollywood Regency and the sophisticated coastal atmosphere of the Hampton’s style.
What trend developments have inspired me?
It’s so great that wallpaper and murals are back in fashion. I have been playing around with design and creating my own patterns to produce a range of original wallpapers.
I admire that fashion is open to exploring more colour in interior design in 2016. Neutral palettes have been around far too long in Queensland now. Let’s embrace colour!
